A Metropolitan Electric Locomotive, built by Ken Rainbird
"John Hampden" No: 5.

This 5 inch gauge Locomotive has been scratch built and includes a great deal of detailing.
Ken was able to obtain a lot of information and photographs of "John Hampden" as the
Locomotive is preserved in the London Transport Museum.
Used on the London Transport Metropolitan Line, these Locomotive's (nicknamed 'Growlers')
had a very long working life, 20 units where built in the early 1900's and rebuilding started in 1919,
which extended their life for many years.
The last Locomotive hauled a passenger train in September 1961, which ended
55 years of passenger service.
Not all were immediately scrapped and John Hampden" was used for shunting duties
at the Acton Works.
