Keith Brunt - Refurbishing a 5 inch gauge 0-6-0 Tank Engine
"Speedy"

Speedy is based on the B.R. (W) Class 1500 Locomotive, when I purchased the engine it had
been in use for quite a long time and was starting to show signs of wear.
I decided to carry out the work out in two stages,
but then problems with a leak on the boiler added a third stage.
Stage One:- Correct some problems with the water tanks, re-pipe various supplies,
move some of the controls and add more detailing.
Stage two:- Renew the smokebox pipework including a new blast pipe and adding an
improved radiant supaheater unit.
Stage three:- Making a new boiler, which will included a new steam valve to get the
steam brake working plus adding a hand brake into the linkage.

Stage Three of the Restoration

2005 - Due to problems with a persistent leak in the boiler that could not be cured without major surgery,
I decided to make a new boiler (with help from several club members).
Speedy Boiler
Outer firebox and barrel with inner firebox wrapper.
Note the superheater holes have yet to be drilled out and the
wooden formers in the background used for shaping the wrappers.

Speedy Boiler with Loco
Checking the fit of the boiler to the loco. Note the use of large jubilee clips to hold the barrel together.

Up Arrow
I am building a range of wagons from kits, but intend adding additional detailing.

Driving Trolley for Speedy
I purchased the driving trolley and then made the various storage and
coal carrying boxes to fit.

Speedy with Wagons
I am adding more wagons to my 'Train'.
